Title: Borders of Reality Side Special 1: Rainbow Remix
Author: [livejournal.com profile] virgo186
Beta: Lan is still incredibly useful and awesome~
Rating: Eh, we'll say PG-13 for now.
Genre: General, I guess. Epic spitefic.
Notes/Warnings: I own nobody here, seriously. Uses mostly the Sailor Moon dub, as Rainbow's fics do, with some use of the original (mostly this beginning part here), and a couple of characters from the Touhouverse...again.
Summary: When news arrives of a timeline in danger of being altered, Neo-Queen Serenity sends a temporary senshi and her loyal guardian partner through the gate in hopes of protecting the past...and their future. However, a strange newcomer may just be the bringer of bad news...

...and in order to protect this alternate timeline, I give the temporary senshi and her guardian permission to journey through the gates and go back to help our alternate selves. Of all people, Sailor Pluto, you understand how any timeline changes can have effect on the present. You have my word that they can be trusted. Sending anyone else would make the situation worse, as there would be doubles to work with. Since these two never existed in that timeline, they are the right ones for the job. I thank you in advance.

Sailor Pluto looked up from the note, written on the queen's official (yet adorable) stationery, with a small frown. Altering timelines would never be a comfortable idea for her, but if it was a request from her ruler, could she really turn it down?

At least her writing has improved, Pluto thought. Serenity had signed the note, and under her name were two lines. Next to one, a title--the 'temporary' senshi, Sailor Phoenix. On the line next to it, the senshi had added her given name: Fujiwara no Mokou. The line beneath had the simple title of "guardian" and had been signed with a pawprint.

"If only cats could write," Mokou commented, looking at her cat guardian. "She wouldn't let me sign it for her."

The long-haired feline next to her flicked her tail, annoyed. "I'm still not used to all of this," she said. "At least the queen knows who we are."

Pluto sighed. She had heard the stories of Serenity's adventures with her senshi, and how they had come across the strange magical pair. Outsiders, from a world inside a barrier, and fighters with unusual skills. Even when they had seemed odd, the queen had been willing to trust them as allies. They had fought side by side against many enemies.

An immortal girl and a ghost. A temporary senshi with an odd guardian. It still sounded very odd.

After a moment, Mokou spoke up again. "Did she miss something? Do we have to go back and talk to her again?"

Note still in hand, Pluto hadn't even realized she was staring at it until then. "I will take you at your word," she said to the paper, before looking up again. "Are you sure you're ready to do this?"

"If someone has to, it makes sense it'd be us," Mokou explained. "Besides, we have the...er, time. No pun intended."

"It was an awful pun, anyway," the cat added.

"This will not be easy," Pluto continued. "Remember that your actions will have an effect, not just in that timeline but in this one as well. You have a defined mission. Are you ready?"

"As ready as we can be, I guess," Mokou replied. "So, how do we do this?"

Pluto handed her a small, key-shaped object. "This is the item you'll need in order to travel," she said. "This will be your own personal Time Key."

"Time Key?"

As Pluto opened her mouth to explain, a small voice piped up from nearby. "Just like the one I have!" The owner of the voice, the queen's daughter, approached and held out her own. "See? Now we match."

"It's not a toy, Small Lady," Pluto sighed.

The pink-haired princess pouted at her. "I know that," she said. "I wanted to know if she remembered, though. I showed her mine once."

Watching Mokou study the small object in her hand, Pluto couldn't help but notice how similar she looked to the princess. The hair was different, certainly--Small Lady with her pink buns, Mokou with her floor-length lavender hair, but they had almost identical ruby-red eyes. Even the ways they interacted with their guardians seemed alike.

However, now was not the time for distraction. "You two should be on your way," she said. "If you'd like to help me, princess."

Small Lady was more than willing to assist, teaching her new friend the spell to activate the key. "Also, watch out when you land," she added. "There's no telling where it'll drop you. I remember I fell on mama before, she really didn't enjoy that."

"I'm pretty durable, but thanks for the warning," Mokou replied, giving the princess a smile. "Wish us luck."

With that, the temporary senshi and her guardian set off through the gate, heading for the timeline they needed to rescue.

"They may need all the luck they can get," Pluto said.
